Chemical process simulation software4/4/2023 ![]() The modelled flow scheme comprises a vast number of unit operations including separators (flash vessels), valves, splitters, mixers, compressors, heat exchangers, pumps and recycles (tear streams). Using a previously published simulation model of an oil and gas separation plant, the results obtained with DWSIM are compared to a commercial process simulator widely used in the industry. In this paper, a detailed evaluation of the open source process simulator DWSIM is presented. ,1 Key words Process Simulator, Chemical, Open Source, Sim42, Hydrocarbon. This paper presents the development of a state of the art open source process simulator as well, i t also provides sample plant simulations. It is recognized that the open sourceapproach is a feasible software development solution that overcomes, some of the shortcomings,of the currently available commercial, process simulators. The open source paradigm provides a near optimal solution for the development,of robust and reliable software applications while using minimal formal resources. ![]() ![]() Current commercial, process simulators do not provide the simulator’s source code theusers must rely on a closed black-box approach, for the unit, process models.,This historical approach,to software development, and usage is diametricallyopposite to thatof open source software. ![]() Abstract Process simulators are a key software tool used in the fluid processing industries for day to day process calculations, for process design, for process optimization and for the debottlenecking of existing processes. ![]()
